HOW TO REPORT A MARINE MAMMAL STRANDING
If unfortunately, the animal is dead
• Call the Police 17.
• Don’t t touch it, even if it looks in good condition of preservation, to avoid any risk of illness transmission. You can never exclude a potential risk of transmission of brucellosis, rouget, pseudomalleidose, vibriosis or rare systemic mycosis.
• Take pictures or videos.
If the animal is alive
• Call the Police 17.
• Humidify the body with wet rags, avoiding covering or watering the blowhole(s).
• Protect the animal from the sun and from the wind with an umbrella or a canvas.
• Dig a hole under its pectoral fins so the blood circulation is optimal.
• Avoid gatherings, agitation, noises that could stress the animal (children, dogs, etc.).
• Don’t forget that wild animals in danger could try to defend themselves (bites, blows).
• Note the required information for the “stranding form”.
• Take pictures or videos.
